Nail Art: FingerFood's Theme Buffet #26 - Neon

So, I actually feel as though I'm cheating a bit in using this for the Theme Buffet this week.  I actually did this manicure almost a month ago and just never got around to posting it to the blog.

When I ran out of time this week between the 4th of July holiday, work and feeling under the weather, I suddenly remembered that I still had these photos floating around on my hard drive waiting for editing! They fit this week's FingerFood's Theme Buffet theme - Neon - perfectly, so I finally hunkered down and cleaned up the images so I could post it.

Part of why I put off posting this for so long is that the color just didn't photograph properly. Neons are notoriously bad about coming out the right color when photographed - neon yellows even more so.  Imagine the color of a bright yellow highlighter that has that slightly greenish tint to it.  That:'s the exact color of this polish. I tried to edit the colors in the photos so they show up truer to life... so hopefully they look okay!

I started this one with a coat of white across all of the nails. White really DOES make neon colors pop, and you really need it for this shade of yellow to turn out right. Over the white, I sponged a gradient with the yellow and the black, reversing the gradient on my ring finger.

Initially, I was just going to leave the manicure as-is, but felt that it was too plain and was just missing something. I grabbed my stamping plates and picked out this tribal-like geometric design from the Cici & Sisi plates that I felt would fade into the black gradients really well, yet still allow the yellow to shine through.

I don't know about you, but I love the way this turned out. I'm usually not a huge fan of neons - they make me feel like I'm wearing something from my childhood - but there's just something about this look that I can't help but smile at. I've always loved the look of gradients with stamping over top.... and I guess this is proof to myself that I really need to do it more often.

Make sure to check out the looks by the other ladies of the Theme Buffet! it's a bright and summery collection this week. I'm particularly fond of this stamped look on Penny Pinching Polish, as well as this awesome striping tape manicure on Technicolor Nail Art
