Reviews and Swatches: Love, Angeline - Quick Change

After a two week hiatus, the Monday Indie Spotlight is back! Each week, I take a look at a different indie nail polish, swatch and review it.

This week, I'm taking a look at Quick Change, a grey crelly from Love, Angeline.

This is the third Love, Angeline nail polish that I've reviewed (the other two being Strawberry Fields  and Card Trick) and as much as I love the brand, I wish I could have loved this particular polish.

Brand: Love, Angeline
Name: Quick Change

*sighs* This is an example of one of those polishes that I SHOULD love, and that comes from a maker whose other polishes I adore.... but the nail polish just fought me every step of the way.

Quick Change is a medium grey crelly filled with medium-sized matte white and yellow circle glitter, as well as smaller, shiny aqua circles.  Mixed into the crelly formula is a flurry of subtle white flakies.  Since it's  grey,  the nail polish color is more opaque than the white Love, Angeline crellies that I own, but it almost borders on being TOO opaque. That said, I DO love the combination of grey, yellow, white and aqua.

I own four Love, Angeline polishes and this is the only whose application I found to be a bit problematic. The formula seems thicker than the three white crellies that I have (Card Trick, Strawberry Fields and Lovely Assistant) but none of those three have flakies in their formula.  Is the formula of this polish actually thicker? Or does it seem to be just because of the flakies?

Normally, with crellies, I would apply a number of thin coats and build them up to opacity. When I try to apply thin coats of Quick Change, I get some dragging and a generally uneven application :( If I use, say, two thicker coats, though, I don't get the glitter distribution that I could get with my other Love, Angeline crellies, and the application is STILL a bit uneven.

On top of the formula, this bottle didn't seem to have the same amount of glitter that I've found in my other bottles - or from what I can see in other blogger photos. Even after shaking the bottle and standing it on its head for a while, I found that I really had to fish for any glitter at all. I got plenty of flakies, but had to work to get any glitter on the brush. The small aqua ones, which seem like they should be most plentiful, were the hardest to get any of. I wonder if the formula was too thick and the glitters sank slowly to the bottom, and I'm having a hard time redistributing them, or if there are fewer glitter pieces in this bottle.

It's a shame that I'm not a big fan of this polish, particularly since I LOVE the other Love, Angeline crellies that I have. I REALLY need to try this another time - perhaps after thinning it a bit - to see if I can get better results. I love the crelly and glitter color combination, and hope that I can get this polish to work for me.

  1. What a nice grey shade. I like how the circle glitters are peeking through.
