Reviews and Swatches: Enchanted Polish - December 2013

Ah, Monday. Dreaded Monday. Miserable most weeks, but particularly so when it's been snowing. But at least Monday also means that it's time for me to review another indie nail polish and nail polish maker!

In this week's Monday Indie Spotlight feature, I'm going to take a look at the December 2013 color from Enchanted Polish. This is a nude-colored polish with a very subtle linear holo effect.

This year, Enchanted Polish is continuing their monthly release. The one difference is that each month's polish will be a mystery color; you won't know what you get until the bottles start to arrive. December 2013, oddly enough sold in January 2014, was the last of the "known" monthly polish releases. The mystery polishes begin with the January 2014 color.

Because the color was shown before the January 2014 preorder took place, I was able to gauge general public opinion on this polish. Holo enthusiasts tend to love their bright and bold colors. Knowing that this nude tan wasn't the most exciting color, I was curious to see how it would be received. I noticed on Facebook that reception were a bit lukewarm when this polish was announced. Many people claimed they would pass on it, or that it was boring or wouldn't suit their skintone. I decided to give it a try and see how i liked it in person.

Photos don't really capture how pretty and subtle the holo in this polish is. It's a very work and conservative office-friendly polish, and definitely on trend with all of the nude colors we've been seeing in the media and on the runway this past season.

This particular polish's formula was a bit on the thin side, so be careful when applying so that the polish doesn't pool in your cuticles (like it did to me). Despite how thin the polish was, though, it was completely opaque in two coats.

I already mentioned that the holo is subtle in this one, but I think that suits the muted color better. I've also noticed that holos in colors this light tend not to be as strong. It DOES show in real life more than in these pictures.

I think the beauty in this polish is that it ISN'T just a flat tan holo. There are hits of copper and this really pretty rose-colored flash to it that I just can't seem to capture in photos properly.

After problems at the end of 2013 with a major over-sell, Enchanted Polish has elected to do its monthly releases using a pre-order system. The pre-order window is announced a few days to a week before the actual date, and the window is generally only open for a half hour (as was the case this past month) or an hour (as in January). This should, hopefully, cut down on the restock madness that the brand was known for.  Just make sure to sign up for the Enchanted newsletter so you can be sure when the next preorder is happening!

December 2013 and January 2014 were my first Enchanted polishes. Sadly, I wasn't paying attention and missed the pre-order for the February color. I definitely want to try to getthe March polish. At $16, Enchanted Polish is one of the pricier of the indie nail polish brands that are out there. I suppose it's up to you to decide if it's worth it or not.

Have you ever tried this brand before? What did you think? Did it live up to the hype?

Disclaimer: I will give my honest opinion on any reviews and swatches that appear on this site, regardless of origin. All products mentioned in this review were purchased by myself <3

  1. Don't own any polishes from this brand but I like this color a lot. I like that its a neutral but that holographic shimmer to it makes it extra special.

    1. Exactly! It's a nice and safe neutral, but still has something special to it.
