NOTD: FingerFood's Theme Buffet #8 - Cute - Doraemon Nail Art

Let me introduce you to Doraemon. Doraemon (ドラえもん) is a character beloved by generations of Japanese children and a Japanese cultural icon. He's a time-traveling, earless robot cat and the main character for the manga and anime series of the same name. He has a fourth-dimensional pocket on his stomach and possesses a door that can take you anywhere. He loves dorayaki and has all kinds of adventures with fifth-grader Nobita.

He's also star of the nail art I decided to do for this week's FingerFood Theme Buffet challenge.




I'll be completely honest. The only reason I got the Shany XXL set B stamping plate was for the Doraemon and Hello Kitty stamps. (I don't know what other stamps  have these characters on them because, well, when there's asian companies making bootleg products that use licensed characters? The products tend not to stick around for very long). Ever since I got this plate last month, I've been waiting for an excuse to do a Doraemon manicure.

This was my first time attempting to make stamped decals. (I've read about the technique in several places, so don't remember exactly where I picked it up to link to).  I painted a coat of top coat on a plastic ziplock bag and stamped the two Doraemon designs that I chose onto it. Over that, I colored in the character using red, blue and white.

While this dried, I painted a base of blue on my pinky and thumb and white on my other three fingers. My thumb I kept solid blue. I used dotting tools to make polka dots in red and white on my pinky. I used striping tape to make random stripes on my middle finger, which I painted red. Since I planned on using a flying Doraemon on my pointer fingers, I painted a light blue color then sponged on white to give it a cloud-filled sky effect.

I then painted a layer of top coat on my ring and pointer fingers to act as glue,  peeled the dried decals off the plastic bag with a pair of tweezers, and applied the decals to the wet top coat. I cleaned up the excess edges and that was that! Top everything off with a coat of top coat to seal it in and you have a fun and whimsical manicure!

• Red: Salon Perfect - Salsa Dance
• Light Blue: Julep - Something Blue
• White: Sinful Colors - Snow Me White
• Stamping: Konad - Special Black
• Stamping Plate: Shany XXL Plate B
