Most of the polishes that I got were parts of sets. I wanted some of the colors in each set, but each one had a few that I could have passed on. I think this polish, Cassie, was one of those that I didn't care much about. It's just been sitting in my drawer, untried. Despite the fact that this polish wasn't really to my tastes, I decided to give it a try anyways!
Product Description: "Soft coral sheer" (credit: product page)
Vintage: July 2013
Collection: The California Coast Collection (Julep Maven July 2013)
Limited Edition: no
Size: 8ml /.27 fl oz
Dupes:
Cassie is a light coral pink color, and when the description says it's sheer, they weren't kidding. All of these photos show 3 coats on the nail. One or two coats offers a transulcent look that isn't bad, but wasn't exactly what I was looking for.
It's a pretty color... unfortunately not for my skin tone. If I weren't so pink and pale, I think it would work. Sadly, the color leans just a touch too much to the orangey side for me.
The formula is VERY thin, and as I mentioned sheer. It's almost ANNOYINGLY thin, threatening to pool in my cuticles as I applied the polish. Julep's formulas really tend to be all over the place. Sometimes they're perfect. Sometimes they're gloopy. Sometimes they're way too thin. Trial seems to be the only way to tell which type of formula each polish will be.
The one problem I had with this polish was with drying. I painted a single thin coat over my usual base coat (Butter London Nail Foundation Base Coat) and it WOULD NOT DRY. 15 minutes later and the polish still felt tacky. I removed everything and tried again with no base coat. This time, I had absolutely no problems, and the polish was touchable in 2 or so minutes. Strange.
Even though I'm not a huge fan of the color, I was using it as a base for my Tri Polish Tuesday look. (The theme this month was pink, brown and grey). Unfortunately, I'll have to post that tomorrow because I screwed everything up badly while stamping and had to scrap the whole look. Trying again tomorrow
