Reviews and Swatches: Sinful Colors - Berry Blast

Welcome back for a new installment of Budget Friendly Friday Saturday! Yeah, sorry for skipping out on yesterday. You know how it is, sometimes, when you fall in love with a manicure and just don't want to take it off to swatch....

Believe it or not, when I look at my blog stats, the number one search term that gets people from Google to Fledgling Nails is for this polish: Sinful Colors - Berry Blast. I haven't swatched it yet, but it DOES show up in my collection list. I picked Berry Blast up in a polish haul from Walmart about 2 months ago, but haven't had a chance to swatch it until today.

And is this one ever a beauty ...

Limited Edition: no?

I can't seem to find out much about this polish online. There's not much in the way of reviews, and only a few swatches. The link to my post on buying it is actually one of the top search results, strangely enough. Nouveau Cheap has a post about this appearing in a display at the end of December 2013, right around the time that I picked it up from my local Walmart. Was it a limited edition? Is it hard to find? Was it only put out in certain test markets? Have not that many people tried reviewing it since its release two months ago?

Berry Blast itself is a warm magenta berry colored polish that's dense with a coppery-gold shimmer. I'm not quite sure if I should call it a duochrome or not. It's definitely close to one, but not quite.... but the shimmer does add flashes of copper at the edges of the nail and bottle which is more pronounced in artificial light. I feel as though there's probably a dupe for this one out there somewhere, but I don't have a clue what.

At first, I was worried that the polish would show brushstrokes like crazy, but after drying, they're barely visible. The polish is ALMOST opaque in one coat, but the color depth and glow of the shimmer doesn't really come out until you have two coats down. Once on the nail, Berry Blast loses a TINY bit of the dimension that it has in the bottle, but  it's not completely flat and I don't really have any problems with it.

The polish has a pretty average shine, and all of the photos here show it without any topcoat. Removing the polish from one nail that got smudged showed no staining at all (though I never really have had problems with staining from colors like this).

This is no fault of the polish itself, but the brush in my bottle is slightly screwed up. This is the first time it's ever happened to me with a Sinful Colors polish, and I just cut off the bristles that were sticking out at an odd angle.

Manicures/nail art that use this nail polish:
For $1.98 (or, often, half that on sale), it's definitely not a bad polish. It seems as though the problem might be in actually FINDING it!

Hmm... now to figure out what kind of nail art to turn this swatch manicure into! Decisions, decisions. Any suggestions?

    1. It really IS a pretty shade. Yeah, it sucks about the brush, but at least the wonky brush was easily fixable!
