Reviews and Swatches: Julep - Lizanne

So, March Julep Maven boxes have started arriving and I was happy to find mine waiting in my mailbox yesterday afternoon. Even though I'd just painted my nails the day before (I'm not usually one of those "change your polish every day" type people), I decided I just had to try one of the  polishes out.

I expected Margaret, a bright cornflower blue, to be my favorite of the three polishes I got this month. However this deep green shimmer, Lizanne, called to me as soon as I saw it.

Lizanne may be described as a "sea green shimmer," but I don't really get a "sea green" vibe from it. To me, sea green has more of a blueish cast to it, like a dark turquoise. I would probably describe this polish more as a "deep emerald green."

Don't get me wrong! I actually like the color. I just think that sometimes you have to filter through all of the "Julep Speak." (ie, "molten" = duochrome). I'm definitely a creme-loving girl, but the slight shimmer adds some dimension to this color that I really like.

The swatch photos show two coats that applied pretty easily. Julep's formulas are pretty hit-and-miss, but this one wasn't bad. It self-leveled beautifully and dried fairly quickly.

Do be careful, though, since when removing Lizanne, I found it was a bit of a stainer (to which my currently-green cuticles can attest).

*Sighs* I keep saying that I'm going to cancel my Julep subscription, but keep forgetting about it until the last minute. I'll probably stick it out one more month since then I have almost enough Jules for a free box, but I don't really know that I can justify the cost long-term. Honestly? The price-per-volume of these polishes is pretty ridiculous, even at the Maven price. I would pay the warehouse sale / clearance price for these (actually, that's how I got most of the Juleps in my collection) ... but that's it.

I also am not able to skip since I was one of those affected by Julep's policy change this past January. (I signed up when you could still skip as often as you wanted, but when the new policy was put in place, it was back-dated to 4 days before I subscribed. Anyone who became a Maven before December 18th was grandfathered in. I was one of those who got screwed since I joined thinking I could skip whenever I wanted.

This is a personal gripe, but I HATE the bottle design.  They look pretty, yes, but by making the bottle thin and tall (in order to make it appear as though you have more product), the bottles are EXTREMELY easy to tip over. While swatching yesterday, I lost half a bottle of Angela when my sleeve knocked it off my desk. For those of you who use Julep polishes, has this ever happened to you?

  1. This totally does not look green, it looks more blue to me. Yeah, not a fan of the bottle shape too. Its so hard to hold when your taking pictures too.

    1. It shows more blue in the photos than in real life, I think. In person, I think it barely shows any blue at all.
(Until I have a better setup, I have to fight with some crappy lighting conditions and a tendency towards under exposure )

The bottles drive me crazy. Like you said, it's hard to hold them for photos. Also, if you're right handed and are shooting your left hand, the bottle's writing is upside down. Well, unless you hold the bottle upside down
