Swatches and Reviews: Philly Loves Lacquer Eagles Duo Part 1 - "I-G-G-L-E-S!"

Growing up in the Philadelphia area to a sports-loving family, it was practically a requirement that I become a Philadelphia Eagles fan or risk being disowned.  Okay, perhaps that's an exaggeration, but my family HAS had season tickets for 30 years and I've faithfully watched the Eagles over the years - through so many bad seasons and so many good. We were born to bleed green.

I've been eyeing up Philadelphia Loves Lacquer polishes a lot lately. I may have missed out on the gorgeous holos in her "Holo-day on Broad" collection, but imagine my joy at finding that Esther put together a duo in honor of our beloved Birds. The duo consists of I-G-G-L-E-S! - a white crelly with various glitter - and Go Birds!, a clear base with the same assortment of glitter.

For my own convenience since I'm a bit short of time (today is my birthday!) , I'm going to post the two reviews separate. Expect a second post on "Go Birds!" later this afternoon or early this evening!  (UPDATE: You can find part 2 of this review here).

(Don't mind the state of my dry cuticles. Winter has not been kind to them this year!)

I-G-G-L-E-S!

I-G-G-L-E-S! is a smooth white crelly (creme + jelly) that is filled with all kinds of glitter in Philadelphia Eagles colors: silver, white, black and teal (well, midnight green, officially).

Suspended in the white base are several sizes of circle glitter, hex glitter, squares and even a few shards. There are even a few teal stars suspended in there! Even though the this is a white polish, the silver and teal microglitter give it a slightly green hue when on the nail.

Application was much smoother than I expected it to be for the size of some of the glitter pieces. The pictures here show 3 coats with no base as opaque on my nails. If you wanted to, you could probably layer this over white to achieve opaqueness in one or two coats. I'd be interested to try this over a darker color - perhaps a dark green - to see how the color would peek through a single layer of the white.

Glitter application was fairly generous, and every brushstroke contained at least some glitter elements. If you want some of the larger glitter pieces, you MAY have to fish for them, though on most occasions I got them just by chance. (I do have to say, though, that the star pieces reminded my Eagles-loving heart of the Cowboys ^_~). If you do get a large circle or star glitter, it may work best to use the blot-and-spread method to transfer them to your nails. You can see the variety of the glitter in the photo to the left

If you aren't from the area, you may be wondering why this polish is named "I-G-G-L-E-S!" No, "giggles" did not lose its "G." To cheer on the Philadelphia Eagles, you usually chant "E-A-G-L-E-S, Eagles!" It's even been added onto the end of our fight song. You'll hear it walking down the street. You'll hear it chanted at other sporting events. I graduated from Temple University in January 2005, a week before the Eagles went to the Super Bowl (and ultimately lost), and the chant even went up several times during my graduation ceremony! When you combine this with the fact that "Eagles" sounds like "Iggles" in a Philly accent, you get this polish's name!

We might have lost to the Saints in the wildcard playoff game at the beginning of the month, but at least I have a pair of polishes from a great indie to hold me through until next season. You don't have to be a football fan to love these polishes.

I-G-G-L-E-S!, as well as Go Birds!, is available on the Philly Loves Lacquer website. You can get a 15ml bottle for $11, or as a duo with Go Birds! for $20.  Go check them out and support a wonderful independant nail polish maker!

    1. Thanks! I'll try to post later. I'm not sure who I'm going to tag, though, since most of the bloggers I follow have already done it! I'll probably tag people as I come across New blogs <3
