Swatches and Reviews: Philly Loves Lacquer Eagles Duo Part 2 - "Go Birds!"

First of all, I want to apologize for the delay in getting this review out. Between birthday celebrations on Monday (33, would you believe it?) and the foot of snow dumped on Philadelphia yesterday, I've been a bit busy.

In any case, today I'm bringing you part 2 of my review of Philly Loves Lacquer's Eagles Duo. You can find part 1 covering "I-G-G-L-E-S!" here.) This time, we're going to take a few minutes to look at "Go Birds,"  a clear glitter topper that's great for both Eagles fans and those who want to add a bit of teal-colored whimsy to their nails.

Philly Loves Lacquer - Go Birds!

Product Description: "a clear glitter topper with a mix of teal, black, silver and white glitters in various sizes." (credit: product page)
Vintage: January 2014
Collection: Eagles Duo
Limited Edition: Yes
Size: 15ml/.5 fl oz

Using a nickname for the Philadelphia Eagles, Go Birds!  is a glitter topper, featuring a clear base filled with various types of glitter in the football team's colors (teal, white, silver, black).  The glitter varies in size from silver and teal microglitter to larger circles. Also among the mix are square glitter, hex glitter, circle glitter and a small amount of shards. The largest pieces are teal cirles and teal stars.

The polish uses a clear base, but because of density of the teal microglitter, the polish may appear to have a  greenish-blue tinge depending upon what color base you use.

These photos show 1.5 coats of Go Birds over a base of Sinful Colors Snow Me White, a bright white creme polish. One coat was more than sufficient to cover the nail with a mix of glitter. I dabbed a bit extra in places where the glitter mix was a bit smaller and appeared more sparse.

As with I-G-G-L-E-S, if you want some of the larger pieces of glitter, you may have to fish for them a bit. Using the blot-and-spread method works best with this topper in order to get a good distribution of glitter.

I also tried swatching this over a few neutral colors to see how the glitter would fare. These photos feature the following colors as bases:

  • Thumb: China Glaze - Public Relations (purple metallic)
  • Pointer: Salon Perfect - Oil Slick (black creme)
  • Middle: Julep - Amity (silvery gold metallic)
  • Ring: OPI - Don't Pretzel My Buttons (beige creme)
  • Pinky: Butter London - Champers (rose gold shimmer)

I also tried swatching over a variety of blues and greens and loved the way they turned out. Unfortunately my camera battery died before I was able to take photos.

All in all, Go Birds! is a fun and versatile teal glitter that you can use with all different colors. Formula consistency was good, and I was very happy with what Esther put together <3 Go Birds!, as well as I-G-G-L-E-S!, is available on the Philly Loves Lacquer website. You can get a 15ml bottle for $11, or as a duo with Go Birds! for $20.

Now to wait until next football season so I can throw this over every manicure to show my support for the Birds!
