Reviews and Swatches: Salon Perfect - Salsa Dance

This past Christmas Season, before I started this blog, I was standing in the cosmetics aisles of my local Walmart, looking for a good red to use for holiday nail art. As I picked through the aisles of polish - in their usual Walmart disarray - I felt a bit like the Goldilocks of nail polish.  "This red is too purple. This one is two pink. This one is too orange. This one is too burgundy. Ah! This one is JUUUUUUST right!"

So what polish did I pick? Salsa Dance, a bright primary-color red by Salon Perfect.

Brand: Salon Perfect
Name: Salsa Dance
Product Description:
Vintage: December 2013
Collection: N/A
Limited Edition: No, permanent
Size: 14ml/.5 fl oz
Dupes: ?

Salsa Dance is a bright and bold red creme polish that screams RED. This shade is the variety of  that you can find in any box of crayons or basic set of paints. I'm sure there are probably dupes of this color in other brands, but my collection isn't large enough (yet) for me to check, and there's not really enough information that I can find by googling the polish name.

This polish goes on very smooth, and is pretty much a one-coater.  All of the photos I've taken show two coats, but I could have easily done only one. I didn't find the formula to be too thick or too thin.

Looking around online, I couldn't find a whole lot about Salon Perfect. From what I can figure out, it's a brand that specializes in nail polishes, false lashes and other beauty goods, and is exclusive to Walmart. The interesting thing is that these polishes are actually made by the same parent company as China Glaze (American International Industries). The formula and finish between China Glaze and Salon Perfect polishes is VERY similar, and it's my understanding that the primary difference is that Salon Perfect lacks the China clay hardeners that China Glaze employs.

If you have a large collection of China Glaze polishes, be careful when buying this brand; you might wind up with a bunch of dupes.  However, if you're looking for an out-of-stock limited edition polish by China Glaze, keep an eye on Salon Perfect. They release some of CG's colors under this line. A good example is the Salon Perfect's 2013 holiday collection. It included several dupes for  limited edition polishes from China Glaze's previous two holiday collections.
