NOTD: Tri Polilsh Tuesday - Pink, Grey and Brown Chevrons

Last month, when I asked everyone about what other challenges they recommend I join, Sam @ Fingerfoods suggested The Crumpet's Tri-Polish Challenge.

I had come across the challenge before and was excited to join in.  My schedule prevented me from doing a tri-polish manicure sooner than this week, but I'm glad that I'm finally giving it a try.

I present to you my first attempt at February's pink, grey and brown theme: Chevrons!



This was my first attempt at a chevron design, and I thought the style looked flattering on my nails.  It was a relatively simple nail art design and I like how it turned out, even if the end product isn't quite what I was expecting.

I used two coats of Sinful Colors Snow Me White as a base for the design. Over that, I used a thinner brush to make unevenly spaced stripes of brown and pink over the white.

Since I wanted the chevron stripes to be a bit wider than my striping tape, I cut strips of painter's tape and applied them in the classic V shape. Over this, I painted two coats of grey polish, then peeled away the tape to reveal the striped base.

Overall, I'm torn about the way these turned out. I see all the little problems, but realize that is just the overly-critical artist in myself. To me, the chevron lines aren't crisp enough and I know they would have looked better in lighter shade of grey. Unfortunately this is the only bottle of grey that I own at the moment.

 I have an idea of what to do for next week using these colors, so hopefully that design will turn out better. Maybe I'll eventually learn not to be v so critical of my work :P
